How many variations of “the game is 90% half mental” have you heard? How many times have you been told; “be tough, relax, focus, concentrate, block it out and bear down?”  How often have you been actually taught to perform those requests???

As a sport psychology/mental toughness coach I teach athletes how to become mentally tough. I subscribe to the notion that in elite athletics talent is overrated and that mental toughness is the competitive advantage that creates champions. The skills I teach prepare athletes to take their game to the next level and beyond. I focus on the importance of: self-image, mindfulness, emotional control, relaxation, imagery, motivation, confidence, setting proper goals, routines and developing a mental workout program to prepare off the field of play and create competition plans to sustain focus and respond to adversity during practice and competition.

My education includes a PhD in Education, a Masters and Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I have worked as a school psychologist for over 21 years, a sport psychology coach for 12 years, travel & high school baseball coach for 9 years and was an All-Conference Division-1 pitcher at the University of Detroit.

In addition to the numerous individual athletes that I work privately with in my office in Birmingham, MI – I will also be the mental toughness coach in 2016-17 for the Hawks Gold Travel Baseball Program, the Wayne State University Women’s Golf Team, the Notre Dame Prep High School Girls Golf Team, the Kalamazoo College Baseball Team, the Kalamazoo Maroons Youth Travel Baseball Program and the St. Clair Shores Sharks Fast Pitch Softball Program.

In previous years I have worked with the 2013 Adrian College Baseball MIAA Championship team, the 2013 Birmingham Seaholm Girls Golf State Champions and the 2012 Birmingham United Girls Lacrosse State Champions. I have also been honored to work with the Macomb Community College Baseball program, the Jet Box Travel Baseball Club, the Michigan Red Sox/College Connect Travel Baseball Club, the Rochester United and Plymouth Salem High School Hockey Teams, the Seaholm High School Volleyball team, the Rochester Rattlers 2003 age group Championship Hockey Team, and the Clarkston High School Boys Tennis Team. I am also proud of coaching numerous individual athletes in various sports to achieve their personal championships on a daily basis.

Also since January of 2016 I have been on the faculty as an adjunct professor at Lawrence Technological University teaching a course on Sport Psychology.
